Waupaca County GOP asks Rep. Gallagher to reconsider impeachment vote

US Rep. Mike Gallagher, 8th Congressional District

In a letter dated, Feb. 9, Chairman Joe Bartel of the Waupaca County Republican Party sent an open letter to U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher concerning his vote against the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas.

“The Waupaca County Republican Party (WCRP) is deeply concerned about Congressman Mike Gallagher’s recent decision to vote against the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas of the Department of Homeland Security. We in Waupaca County believe in enforcing our current immigration laws in the United States, especially when we have illegal aliens flooding our southern borders. It is our elected officials’ responsibilities to protect the citizens of the United States. Congress has given Secretary Mayorkas the responsibility to enforce current law on immigration which isn’t being done, with a record of 1,000,000 illegal immigrants crossing our border since October 2023,” the letter began.

“We in Waupaca County appreciate Congressman Mike Gallagher’s reasoning not to impeach Secretary Mayorkas because impeachment shouldn’t be used as a political weapon. However, our members feel Secretary Mayorkas dereliction of duties in regard to the safety of the citizens of the United States warrants impeachment of his position at the Department of Homeland Security.

“We respectfully call on Representative Gallagher to reconsider his vote on this important issue facing the United States of America, if it comes before the congress (sic) again,” the letter ended.
