WASHINGTON, D.C., BOUND: FCCLA students competed at the State Leadership Conference, and three are advancing to nationals. Avah Weinreis and Olivia Thiel earned a Gold rating for their Chapter in Review Display, and Maggie Williams also brought home Gold in Entrepreneurship.
At the state competition, Aliviah Noack earned a Bronze rating in the state-only Baking and Pastry event. Congratulations to all!
NEW SOUND SYSTEM: Taylor Field in Iola now has a new sound system courtesy of the Krause Foundation, the Iola Lions, and the American Legion Post 14.

WAUPACA POST OFFICE: The post office in Waupaca has been named the Master Sgt. Melvin O. Handrich Post Office. He is a Medal of Honor recipient who hailed from Manawa. He received the medal for his heroic and selfless actions on Aug. 25, 1970, at Sobuk San Mountain in Korea. The medal was presented on June 21, 1951, at The Pentagon by Gen. Omar N. Bradley to Melvin’s father. He was born on Jan. 26, 1919, in Manawa and is buried in Little Wolf Cemetery.
ELECTRONICS RECYCLING DAY: You can recycle any old and unwanted electronics on Friday, April 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Swan Park in Waupaca. Some items may require a recycling fee. Items which will not be accepted include smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, thermostats, batteries, thermometers, light bulbs, full-size refrigerators and freezers, and central air conditioning units.

STATE SEN. TOMCZYK RUNNING: Sen. Cory Tomczyk (R-Mosinee) has announced his run for reelection to the 29th District in the Wisconsin State Senate. He represents Iola-Scandinavia. He was first elected to the State Senate in 2022. He serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Transportation & Local Government. His re-election in the fall would ensure a second four-year term.
