
Cole Schacherl won the men’s 5-kilometer division and Jared Linzmeier took the men’s 15-kilometer title Saturday, April 18, at the Iola Spring Trail Race, headlining a day of strong performances across distances and age groups at the Iola Winter Sports Club.
The event drew 39 runners from communities across Wisconsin, including Amherst, Amherst Junction, Plover, Wausau, Stevens Point, Appleton, Kaukauna, Wrightstown, Neenah, Pittsville, Milwaukee, Madison, Neshkoro, Oshkosh, Greenville, Hurley and Iola-Scandinavia. Twenty-two women entered and 17 finished, while 17 men entered and 16 finished. Women posted an average time of 44 minutes, 4 seconds, and men 36 minutes, 32 seconds.
Schacherl dominated the 5K, finishing in 26 minutes, 21 seconds. Oliver Hylla placed second in 27 minutes, 24 seconds, and Cray Rieckmann was third in 29 minutes, 16 seconds. Delaney Schultz led the women’s 5K in 28 minutes, 7 seconds. Heather Konkol took second in 29 minutes, 9 seconds, and Janet Glodowski finished third in 32 minutes, 21 seconds.
Linzmeier pulled away in the longer 15K, winning in 1 hour, 12 minutes, 39 seconds. Heath Erickson was second in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 7 seconds, and Sean Schmidt placed third in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 44 seconds. Katelyn Hoffman won the women’s 15K in 1 hour, 29 minutes, 13 seconds. Elizabeth Hoffman Stevens was second in 1 hour, 30 minutes, 5 seconds, and Jennifer Schumacher took third in 1 hour, 41 minutes, 8 seconds.

Age-group results underscored the field’s depth. In the 5K, Oliver Hylla topped the 20-29 men in 27 minutes, 24 seconds, with Cray Rieckmann second in 29 minutes, 16 seconds. Justin Schingo won the 30-39 men in 30 minutes, 8 seconds. Kevin Wolf led the 40-49 men in 29 minutes, 25 seconds. John Delis took the 50-59 men in 39 minutes, 59 seconds, and Kevin Hoffman won the 60-69 men in 40 minutes, 22 seconds. Paul Dahlen captured the over-70 men in 1 hour, 2 minutes, 32 seconds.
On the women’s side in the 5K, Alisha Lund won the 30-39 group in 35 minutes, 12 seconds. Heather Konkol topped the 40-49 women in 29 minutes, 9 seconds, while Janet Glodowski led the 50-59 women in 32 minutes, 21 seconds. Mary Dahlen won the 60-69 women in 1 hour, 2 minutes, 28 seconds, and Maggie Woodside took the over-70 women in 49 minutes, 31 seconds.
The 15K produced similar breadth. Jadin Sell won the 20-29 men in 1 hour, 25 minutes, 44 seconds. Sean Schmidt led the 30-39 men in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 44 seconds, and Heath Erickson topped the 40-49 men in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 7 seconds. Sam Severson won the 50-59 men in 1 hour, 54 minutes, 4 seconds, and Vic Akemann took the 60-69 men in 1 hour, 37 minutes, 37 seconds. Among women, Kayla Peplinski won the 20-29 group in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 48 seconds, Elizabeth Hoffman Stevens led the 30-39 women in 1 hour, 30 minutes, 5 seconds, and Jennifer Schumacher topped the 40-49 women in 1 hour, 41 minutes, 8 seconds.
The results reflected a competitive spring trail event that rewarded both speed on the shorter course and endurance on the longer one, with top finishers separating themselves in each division while age-group winners spanned generations.
