The Scandinavia Town Board will meet Wednesday, Sept. 9, to discuss a looming school referendum and updates on local junk yards. The monthly board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Scandinavia Municipal Center, where local officials will tackle a crowded agenda ranging from local property compliance to upcoming regional meetings.

The evening’s top presentation will feature Chris Nelson, the district administrator for the Iola-Scandinavia School District. Nelson will have a 15-minute limit to speak, present information, and answer questions regarding an operational referendum that will appear on the Nov. 3 election ballot.

In addition to the educational presentation, the board will review ongoing municipal issues during the old business portion of the meeting. Board members will receive updates on the Vandyke and Ron Gavin junk and salvage yards, evaluate issues regarding Randy Stuczynski on Oak Ridge Road, and review a conditional use permit update for Knauer.

The board will also address regional emergency services by discussing a new ambulance for 2027 with the Iola Ambulance Service.

Looking ahead to the upcoming weeks, the board will set dates for several key seasonal events and municipal reviews, including: The annual joint meeting with the Village of Scandinavia, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 5:30 p.m.; Open Book review, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the Board of Review, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

New business items on the agenda include a formal review of the upcoming annual joint meeting agenda and an evaluation of open positions on the Town of Scandinavia Board. The board will also review backup laptop information, process monthly bills, and handle official correspondence.

The meeting will conclude with a public input session, strictly limited to three minutes per speaker.
