The Scandinavia Town Board approved a conditional use permit for a new cell tower and voted to grant a $5 hourly wage increase for emergency medical services staff at its Aug. 12 meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Bryan Fuhs, took place at 5:38 p.m. at the Scandinavia Municipal Center. Board members Brenda Mazemke, Bryan Fuhs, Lonnie Pryzbylski, Frank Bauer, and Mike Mazemke attended, along with three members of the public.

Supervisor Bauer made the motion to approve the cell tower placement on a parcel owned by MCC Inc., following an earlier approval by the town’s Planning Commission. Bauer also moved to approve the $5 per hour wage increase for Iola EMS staff, which is set to take effect in the fall. Supervisor Pryzbylski seconded both motions, and both passed.

In other business, the board discussed local road issues, noting that utility construction was commencing on Elm Valley Road and Shady Drive. Under old business, officials noted that a new ambulance scheduled for 2027 remains on track. The board also continues working with Waupaca County Zoning and Planning on updates for the Vandyke and Ron Gavin junk and salvage yards, as well as a conditional use permit update for Knauer.

The board approved a temporary liquor license and an operator’s license for Ricky Ertl for the Iola Lions Club “Ride for Heroes” event, which will be held at the Iola Car Show Campground from Sept. 11-13. Additionally, the board affirmed its continued support for the Iola Area Recycling Commission during a review of the Waupaca County Recycling Implementation Council.

Treasurer Mike Mazemke presented the July financial report, which revealed a check register balance of $70,588.58 as of July 31. The board subsequently voted to approve the payment of outstanding bills to the Village of Scandinavia, Multimedia Channels, the Waupaca County Humane Society, Waupaca County, and Scott Construction.

The board scheduled the official Board of Review for Sept. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the municipal center, preceded by an Open Book session on Sept. 23. An annual joint meeting with the Village of Scandinavia was set for Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m.

The next regular town board meeting will occur on Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Scandinavia Municipal Center.
