STORM DAMAGE ASSESSMENT: Communities across Wisconsin are still completing damage assessments from storms that ripped through the state last week. Greg Engle, administrator of Wisconsin Emergency Management, said over 1,000 individual storm damage assessments have been made so far. Read the Wisconsin Public Radio story here.
MUSKY, WALLEYE STOCKING CUT: DNR Secretary Karen Hyun said the agency lacks the authority to spend money transferred to the fish and wildlife account. A few weeks ago, the agency requested authority to spend roughly $4 million by April 12 to maintain core work on stocking, habitat management, monitoring, and maintenance of public facilities. HOMELESS STUDENTS: According to DPI data, 20,195 students in Wisconsin public schools were identified as homeless during the 2023-24 school year. That marked a 9.1% increase over the previous year, even as the number of enrolled students declined by 1.1%. – Wisconsin Examiner
ONLINE PREDATORS: In an open letter released April 22, FBI Milwaukee said it has seen a concerning increase in predatory online activity in recent years, including cases linked to diffuse online networks sometimes referred to as “764.” The bureau said those actors often target children through what it describes as sadistic online exploitation, or SOE.
