AMHERST – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team rallied for an exciting come-from-behind CWC-East win over Amherst, 8-7, on Tuesday, April 28. The win improves the Thunderbirds’ conference record to 4-2 and their overall record to 7-2.

Players of the Game: Brooklyn Berrens (top left) and Brylee Jueds (top right) each had three hits. Jueds had three RBIs. Charlotte Isermann (bottom left) and Maya Munoz (bottom right) each had two hits. Munoz had two RBIs.

Amherst took a 6-0 lead after two innings. The T-Birds cut the lead in half, 6-3, in the top of the third inning. The Falcons added one more run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-3 lead.  Iola-Scandinavia scored three runs on four hits with the help of two Amherst errors in the fifth inning to make the score 7-6. In the sixth inning with two outs, the Thunderbirds scored two more runs on two hits and two more Falcon errors to take an 8-7 lead.

The T-Birds’ defense held Amherst scoreless in the final four innings.

The T-Birds outhit the Amherst 13-8. Brooklyn Berrens and Brylee Jueds each had three hits. Jueds had a run-scoring single in the third inning and a two-run single in the fifth inning.  Charlotte Isermann and Maya Munoz each had two hits, including a two-run single in the third inning. 

Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance to earn the win. She allowed six walks and had four strikeouts. All seven runs scored on Clendenning were unearned. The T-Birds struggled defensively, committing five errors in the game.

The junior varsity team lost to Amherst, 8-6, after the varsity game.

Iola-Scandinavia will travel to Bonduel on Thursday, April 30, for a conference game, then return home to play St. Mary Catholic on Friday, May 1, in a non-conference game. Both varsity games are set to start at 4:30 p.m.
