Board to consider Thirsty Perch licensing

The Iola Village Board will convene Tuesday, July 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Iola Village Hall, 180 South Main Street, for its regular meeting.

Board members will formally introduce the newly appointed Circuit Court, Branch III Judge, the Honorable Diane L. Meulemans, during the session. She resides west of Iola. They also plan to consider several new business items affecting local businesses, infrastructure, and village finances.

In new business, the board will address alcohol licensing for Thirsty Perch LLC at 195 Water St. Items include a Class “B”/Class “B” alcohol license for agent Sherri Miller covering July 15, 2026, through June 30, 2027, along with an annual outdoor music permit. Operator permits for Jocelyn G. Clancy, Sherri Miller, Lily Skoog, and Olicia G. Thiel, covering the same period, will also come before the board. The board will also consider an outdoor music permit for the business.

The board has an agenda item to retain Broadman Clark as legal counsel, rather than Bruce J. Meagher LLC, for the legal case against Mark McCoy and Lori Miller.

Financial matters will feature prominently. The board will consider two $500 business assistance grants from the Revitalization Fund — one to The Very Limited, LLC and one to Crystal Café of Iola, LLC. It will also review the purchase of a new Farmers Market sign for up to $500. Other proposals include establishing a Sewer Relining Fund with a $15 per unit quarterly allocation retroactive to the start of 2026, creating a Sewer Equipment Replacement Fund, and allocating $2,500 per quarter to repay an internal sewer loan.

Additional agenda items include assigning addresses to two properties on Rulau Road, approving a conditional use permit for a Back-to-School Family Fun Week, a resolution revising the employee handbook to prohibit lending village-owned property, certified survey maps, a variance request for an oversized garage, retaining three police cars in the fleet, and installing 25 mph speed limit signs on Division and East Iola streets.

The board will review and approve minutes from multiple prior meetings, hear reports from standing committees including Planning & Zoning, Public Works, Police, Parks & Garden, Finance and Revitalization, and consider future meeting dates. A public presentation period limited to two minutes per speaker is scheduled.

The meeting will follow Robert’s Rules of Order and include the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
