The Iola-Scandinavia High School varsity volleyball team put together a strong stretch of play over the past week, capturing crucial victories to reach 8-6.

The Thunderbirds’ week was highlighted by a thrilling five-set victory Tuesday against Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Iola-Scandinavia outlasted its opponents to secure a 3-2 win, maintaining momentum from a string of recent multi-set battles.

Before Tuesday’s victory, the Thunderbirds swept Assumption High School 2-0. In that match, Emma Printz anchored the offense with 20 assists, eight digs, and two aces. Maggie Maus contributed 10 kills and five digs, while Charlotte Isermann added seven kills and two aces to secure the win, bringing the team’s record to 7-5.

According to tournament recaps on MaxPreps, the team also showcased its capabilities during weekend tournament play at the Auburndale Invite. The Thunderbirds split results, falling 2-0 to Columbus Catholic but bouncing back with a dominant 2-0 sweep over the Pacelli Cardinals. During the matchup against Pacelli, Maggie Maus led the front line with 11 kills, 11 digs, and two aces. Printz facilitated the offense with 22 assists and 11 digs, while Ruby Maus added six digs and five kills to help secure the win.

With an 8-6 record, Iola-Scandinavia has firmly bounced back from a minor early-month slump by winning three of its last four matches. The Thunderbirds look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as conference play intensifies.
