
The School District of Iola-Scandinavia Board of Education will meet Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. in Room 6 of the Elementary School at 450 Division Street to discuss personnel decisions, a potential November referendum and updates on the district’s strategic plan and budget.
The board will consider hiring recommendations that include Madison Weingart as a high school Spanish teacher and an elementary art teacher. Weingart has a Bachelor’s in Spanish and Latin Studies from UW-Eau Claire and a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction from St. Mary’s University, Minnesota. She taught at Hudson Middle School in Hudson, Wisconsin.
Committee reports will also cover resignations and other personnel matters.
In new business, the board will take up a resolution for a November referendum. Finance Committee Chairperson Krogwold and lay members Erikka Flowers and Mark Sether will provide a budget update during committee reports.
Under old business, the board will review progress on the district’s strategic plan and a survey report. The Curriculum Committee, led by Chairperson Jones, will present the 2026-27 Student Academic Standard Annual Notice, while the Policy & Legislation Committee, chaired by Grassl, will consider updates including a new policy on the use of social media.
The meeting will open with a call to order, roll call, and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by approval of the agenda and consent agenda items. Those include minutes from June meetings, approval of checks, the treasurer’s report, pupil activity accounts, fundraiser requests and two donations from Silver Lake Lanes totaling $750 for track and field ($25) and the school lunch fund ($500).
Public comments will be accepted from registered speakers. The board will also hear administration reports, building and grounds updates from Chairperson Boris, transportation news from Chairperson Neumann, and reports from negotiations and other committees. Board members will share updates from WASB and CESA 5 meetings.
The session will conclude with a discussion of future agenda items, including a working committee meeting on Aug. 3 and the next regular board meeting on Aug. 10, both at 6 p.m. in the same location.
