The Iola-Scandinavia Board of Education will meet Monday to finalize the 2026-27 tax levy, vote on student athletic hires, and review key updates to its strategic plan and recent referendum.
The regular school board meeting will take place on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. in Room 6 of the Elementary School, located at 450 Division Street in Iola. While the gathering is public and will include official school district business, officials emphasized it is not a general community town hall.
Finance Committee Chairperson Krogwold, alongside committee members Erikka Flowers and Mark Sether, will lead the board in a vote to confirm the 2026-27 tax levy and district budget. Under old business, the full board will also receive formal updates regarding the district’s strategic plan and ongoing referendum projects.
The board is scheduled to vote on multiple personnel decisions brought forward by committee Chairperson Kirmse, including a recommendation to hire Nick Desrochers as the junior varsity boys basketball coach. The board will also consider a travel request for a 2028 high school field trip to Spain.
A substantial consent agenda will be presented for a single vote, featuring the approval of prior meeting minutes, treasury audits, and multiple community donations. Notable contributions include 1,350 board feet of hardwood from The Tigerton Lumber Co., $2,500 from the ISFAC for a new treadmill, and over $2,300 in Marie Skowen memorial donations split between athletics and cancer-fighting accounts. The consent agenda also contains requests for student fundraisers, such as a softball team dinner and a parent-teacher organization holiday shop.
Administrative and committee updates will round out the night, including a facility self-assessment presentation from Building and Grounds Chairperson Boris.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to address the board during a dedicated input period. Residents wishing to speak must register before the meeting by filling out a card with their full name, address, and specified topic, and must be formally recognized by the board president.
The board’s next scheduled meetings will be a working committee session on Dec. 7 and a regular monthly voting session on Dec. 14.
