The Iola-Scandinavia School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in Room 6 of the Elementary School at 450 Division St. in Iola to address budget resolutions that could allow the district to exceed its revenue limit and put the question to voters.

Board members will consider a resolution authorizing the school district budget to exceed the revenue limit for four years for non-recurring purposes, along with a companion resolution providing for a referendum election on that question. The meeting will also include discussion of a seclusion and restraint report for the 2025-26 school year and approval of an overnight volleyball trip.

Under old business, the board will receive an update on the strategic plan. Committee reports will cover several items, including asphalt maintenance quotes from the Building and Grounds Committee (Asphalt Seal & Repair $16,000 and Fahrner Asphalt Sealers $20,335. The Personnel and Nominations Committee, chaired by Kirmse, will present hiring recommendations for three volunteer coaches: Jack Vater as cross country coach, and Grant Fredy and Ryan Kampert as middle school/high school football coaches.

The Finance Committee, chaired by Krogwold with lay members Erikka Flowers and Mark Sether, will provide a budget update. Other committees scheduled to report include Transportation, Curriculum, Policy and Legislation, and Negotiations.

The board will begin with a call to order, roll call, and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by approval of the agenda. Public input will be allowed for those who register in advance by filling out a card with their full name, address, and topic; speakers must be recognized by the board president.

Consent agenda items will include approval of the July 13 board meeting minutes and Aug. 3 working committee meeting minutes, auditing and approval of checks, the treasurer’s report and pupil activity accounts, fundraiser requests, and gifts and donations.

District presentations and administration reports from the facilities director, principal, and administrator are also on the agenda, along with school board news and updates from WASB and CESA 5 meetings.

Future agenda items noted include a Sept. 14 regular board meeting at the same location and time, with no working committee meetings planned for Sept. 7 or Oct. 5 due to the Labor Day holiday.
