Pie? Did someone say pie? YES!
Come and donate blood at the Wednesday, Oct. 21, Iola Lions/American Red Cross Blood Drive and enjoy a slice of pie. So far, we know there will be pumpkin and apple, but we expect other flavors, too. That’s not all – besides knowing you may have helped save 1-3 lives, you will receive a $10 Amazon gift card by email.
The Blood Drive is from 12-5 p.m. at the Iola-Scandinavia Fitness and Aquatic Center. Please call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to www.redcrossblood.org to pre-register. If you are comfortable on the computer, you can do your Rapid Pass the morning of the drive.
Floods, fires, tornadoes, and derechos are causing critical blood shortages. By donating, you can help build the blood supply so hospitals can care for ongoing patient needs. All blood types are needed, especially O+. Donating blood only takes about an hour, but it can have a lifetime of impact. It’s a great way to support those seeking medical care and battling chronic illness.
Amy’s story: Three years ago, Amy was fighting for her life with complications after having her 5th child. Today, she remains grateful to the ordinary people who donated the blood, plasma, and platelets she received. “They are my heroes and lifesavers! Without the 15 units of blood product, I wouldn’t be here today,” Amy said.
Her gratitude has even led her to help others. Amy has now donated blood 14 times, making her one “give” away from reaching her goal of donating as much blood as she received. “Giving blood has been a day I now look forward to and is something I plan to continue. The process is simple, and the caring staff helps you through every step! If you’re a donor, thank you; you truly save lives! If not, why not give it a try? Can you donate like Amy?
