The highlight of the evening will be a screening of “Back on Track,” an award-winning documentary film produced by Iola resident Ron Scott and directed by filmmaker Max Hauser. Mike Kirk of the Waupaca Depot presents the film and provides insights into its subject.

The documentary chronicles efforts to restore the Waupaca train depot, highlighting community-driven preservation work on the historic structure.

The film chronicles the remarkable saga of Mike Kirk, a devoted model train enthusiast whose unwavering determination, along with the support of a dedicated circle of family and friends, spearheaded the decades-long restoration of the long-abandoned train depot nestled in the heart of rural Waupaca. Through Kirk’s indomitable spirit and vision, the Waupaca Depot emerges as a phoenix rising from literal ashes, symbolizing resilience and community revival.

“Back on Track” transcends the boundaries of a mere restoration project, delving deep into the rich tapestry of American history and the birth of rural communities. As the film unfolds, viewers are transported on an evocative journey, exploring the intertwined narratives of Kirk’s personal quest and the broader narrative of American heritage. This compelling documentary, helmed by Emmy award-winning producer Ron Scott of Ursa Major Productions and directed by debut filmmaker Max Hauser of Liminal Vision Films, promises an unforgettable journey through time and perseverance.

The next board and membership meetings are scheduled for Monday, April 27. For more information, contact the organization at 715-445-IOLA.
