AMHERST – The Iola-Scandinavia softball team lost to Amherst, 8-2, on Thursday night, May 21, in a non-conference game. The game was played at the downtown softball field at Nelson Park – known as Freddie’s Home Plate.
The loss dropped the Thunderbirds’ overall record to 16-7.

The T-Birds grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Amherst responded with five runs in the second inning, added two runs in the fifth inning, and one more run in the sixth inning for the final score.
Amherst outhit the Iola-Scandinavia 14-7. Rayanne Clendenning led Thunderbirds with two hits, including a double in the second inning. Brooklyn Berrens had a run-scoring triple in the first inning.
Clendenning went the distance in taking the loss. She allowed one walk and one strikeout.
Tournament
The varsity team will open tournament play in a WIAA regional semifinal game on Tuesday, May 21, against Pacelli. The game will be played at the Woyak Sports Complex in Plover. The cost of admission for all regional tournament games is $6.
