The Iola-Scandinavia softball team beat St. Mary’s Catholic, 5-1, in a non-conference game at home. The Thunderbirds improve their overall record to 8-3 while the Zephyrs drop to 6-5 overall.

St. Mary’s scored their lone run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The T-Birds responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and additional runs in the second and fifth innings.

Iola-Scandinavia outhit the Zephyrs 12-6. Brooklyn Berrens led the Thunderbirds with three hits, including a triple in the first inning, and had two RBIs. Maddie Karolus and Maya Munoz each had two hits. Karolus had a run-scoring double in the first inning.

Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance to earn the win. She allowed two walks and had three strikeouts.

Braelyn Jueds is out at home attempting to score in the second inning.

The varsity team will return to action on Monday, May 4, hosting Amherst in a CWC-East game.  The game will start at 4:15 p.m.
