The Helvetia Town Board approved several liquor license renewals, a QuickBooks Online membership and a clerk’s college tuition reimbursement during its regular meeting June 2 at the Town Hall.
Chairman Jeff Opper called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. with all board members present along with three residents. The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance, approved minutes from the previous meeting and signed off on the payment of town bills and the treasurer’s report. Motions on those items were made by Supervisor Mike Grassl and seconded by Supervisor Justin Hintz.
In new business, the board approved an annual QuickBooks Online membership to improve bookkeeping for the clerk and treasurer. Grassl made the motion, and Hintz seconded it. Clerk Kotti Hintz received approval for reimbursement of annual college tuition costs under the same motion pattern.
The board also granted renewal applications for four liquor licenses: three Class B licenses for Glen Cairn Golf Course, Club 161 and Wings Inn, plus one Class A retail license for Sandbur Corners General Store. Additionally, 23 operator licenses were approved. Grassl made the motion and Hintz seconded; it passed unanimously.
Chairman Opper recapped the Wisconsin Towns Association quarterly meeting from May 28, which included updates on recent flooding from WCEM and changes to roadkill cleanup. County support for carcass removal has ended, shifting responsibility to the Wisconsin Conservation Patrol with costs borne by residents.
On town facilities, the board noted that ceiling tile installation was scheduled for the week of June 22-27, with Jeff Opper renting a lift and assistance expected from Justin Hintz’s brother Kevin and resident Zack. Floor work is to follow on July 21. The hall rental agreement now includes the Wi-Fi password as part of the fee.
Road projects received attention, including pending culvert work on Moen Lake Court, shoulder work on Waupaca County Highway, continued road brushing by Opper and Grassl, and anticipated patching and construction starts in late June and July. Mowing continues under Kelly, with discussion but no decision on installing a 100-gallon off-road diesel tank at the town hall.
Plan Commission member Gary Prill had no report. During public input, a Swamp Road resident inquired about seal coating; the board confirmed plans for seal coating from Pruess Road north to the basketball court, patching near 161, and brushing work, with county assistance for larger trees.
The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, July 7 at 7 p.m. The meeting adjourned on a motion by Grassl, seconded by Hintz.
