The Helvetia Town Board met July 7 at Town Hall and approved spending up to $1,800 on a new office computer, heard an introduction from a newly appointed judge and addressed routine financial and road maintenance matters.
Chairman Jeff Opper called the regular meeting to order at 7 p.m. All board members attended, along with three residents and Diane Meulemans. The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Clerk Kotti Hintz read the previous meeting’s minutes, which the board approved on a motion by Mike Grassl, seconded by Justin Hintz. The board also approved town bills and the treasurer’s report on the same motions.
Under new business, Meulemans introduced herself as the replacement for Judge Huber. Appointed by Gov. Tony Evers, she began March 1 and will appear on the ballot in the spring 2027 election.
The board reported that $3,483.27 in fire dues funds had been paid after completion of the maintenance and effort report. Grassl moved to spend $1,800 or less on a new office computer, excluding software, plus additional office software under $200. Hintz seconded, and the motion passed.
Hintz read operator’s license applications. Grassl moved to accept all applicants; Hintz seconded, and the motion passed.
The board discussed the Ride and Share program, previously funded by a grant that is no longer available. The county is seeking township contributions to continue it. On dog licenses, the board noted one property with 17 adult dogs and a litter of puppies, plus other animals observed by zoning. Hintz suggested tabling the matter until August; the board agreed to allow zoning time to resolve the situation.
Project updates included floors scheduled for redoing July 21, completed ceiling tiles with added batting for sound control, and a propane contract discussion. Hintz presented a Countryside proposal; the prior contract covered 1,000 gallons at $1.42. The board tabled the topic until August contracts become available, with Hintz to check costs for a 1,000-gallon tank and possible trade of the existing one. Shelter bird-dropping solutions were also raised.
Road work updates covered Moen Lake Court completion by Chad Bestul, with a culvert ready for installation and additional brushing planned by Grassl; ongoing Waupaca County highway shoulder work; continued brushing and cleanup by Opper and Grassl; upcoming Carper Road work and a future new culvert; county tree cutting on Cross Road; seal coating by Scott’s Construction on Lutz, Swamp and Pagel roads starting the following week; further brushing on multiple roads; and mowing by Kelly, with ditches in good condition.
Gary Prill of the Plan Commission had no report. The next meeting was set for Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.
