Yvonne Mae Bergan
April 30, 1930 – May 18, 2023

Yvonne Mae Bergan, 93, passed away gently surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law and loving caregivers on May 18, 2023, at the Aspire Assisted Living.
Yvonne was born on April 30, 1930, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, daughter of Ivar and Alice (Nygaard) Ekquist.
She grew up in Scandinavia, Wisconsin, and married Robert Bergan on Feb. 7, 1959. Yvonne worked several jobs throughout the years, the most important job to her was to create a warm and loving home for her family.
Yvonne led a life of service to others. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary caring for those returning from war. She supported active troops with cards, letters, and prayers. She was also known as the “poppy lady”.
Yvonne’s strong faith called her to service at Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a member since 1963. She enjoyed volunteering there and serving for funeral luncheons.
Yvonne was a long-time standing member of The Sons of Norway as she was extremely proud of her Viking roots.
Yvonne leaves a legacy of kindness and encouragement that will last generations.
Yvonne will be missed by her son Doug (Lisa) Bergan; sister-in-law Susan Bergan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; as well as Robert’s parents; brother Carroll; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
The funeral service for Yvonne will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton, with Pastor Jake Czarnik-Niemeyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
Yvonne’s family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the caregivers at Aspire Assisted Living for making her part of their family and Compassus Hospice, especially Karissa and the hospice Chaplin, and thank you to her neighbor Jean for her care.
