On Presidents’ Day in the Iola-Scandinavia area, the Scandinavia Public Library will be closed. The day kicks off with the Naomi Circle meeting at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church starting at 1:30 p.m. Later in the evening, the Iola-Scandinavia High School JV/Varsity Boys Basketball team will host Laona-Wabeno at 5 p.m. Simultaneously, the Iola Lions Club will gather at the Crystal Café at 5:30 p.m., where Debi Deli will be the guest speaker, sharing insights on Leader Dog for the Blind.
February 20
Quilting enthusiasts will gather at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the Iola-Scandinavia High School Girls Varsity Basketball team is scheduled for their Regional Game 1.
February 21
The day starts with Preschool Story Time at the Iola Village Library at 10 a.m. Early in the morning, at 10 a.m., Dawn Matzke will be at the Center For Living Well. The Scandinavia Lutheran Church will host Prayer Ministry at 1 p.m., followed by a Confirmation Class meeting at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 3:30 p.m. In the evening, Lenten Supper, sponsored by Confirmation students, takes place at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 5:15 p.m. Other evening events include Spark at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (5:30 p.m.), Lenten Services at Iola United Methodist Church (5:30 p.m.), and a Lenten Service titled “Does God Really Answer Prayer?” at Redeemer Lutheran Church (6:30 p.m.). The day concludes with Bluegrass Music at Northland Sports Bar & Grill at 7 p.m.
February 22
Early risers can enjoy Community Coffee at Scandinavia Municipal Center at 8 a.m. For those who love crafting, Scandinavia Public Library will host a Crafting Bee at 10 a.m. Later in the day, a Cribbage Tournament at Silver Lake Lanes begins at 1 p.m., and a Bridge event will take place at Iola Village Hall, Community Room, at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Scandinavia Public Library will host a Read-In from 1-4 p.m.
Sporting events include Iola-Scandinavia High School JV2 Boys Basketball at Manawa Elementary School (5:45 p.m.) and JV/Varsity Boys Basketball at Manawa (5:45 p.m.). Fresh Hope will meet at Scandinavia Lutheran Church at 6 p.m. There will be a Hunter Education Safety Course registration at Iola Conservation Club at 6:30 p.m. for a cost of $10. Open Mic Night at Odin & Freja’s Place wraps up the evening at 7 p.m.
February 23
There will be no school on this day due to a Professional Development Day/Recordkeeping Day. In the afternoon, Friendly Friday at Iola Village Library invites participants to bring a craft, help work on a puzzle, or simply join for conversation and fun from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Additionally, a Pool Singles Tournament at Northland Sports Bar & Grill begins at 6 p.m. with a $10/person entry fee, featuring a luck-of-the-draw format and the best 2-out-of-3 rounds.
February 24
The day kicks off with the 11th Annual Dice Run, starting at 11 a.m. from eight different bars and concluding at Schmidt’s Corners at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, and playing sheets are available at Schmidt’s Corners. Participating bars include 10LA Corner Bar, Just Another Bar, Steve & Michelle’s, Boondocks, Little Falls, Gophers, Big Falls Tavern, and Schmidt’s Corners. In the evening, First Avenue Acoustic will perform at Odin & Freja’s Place at 7:30 p.m.
February 25
The week concludes with a Chili Luncheon Fundraiser hosted by Friends of Scandinavia History at Silver Lake Lanes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a $7 donation, attendees can enjoy all the chili they can eat, along with basket raffles and a 50-50 raffle. At 3 p.m., there will be an informational meeting for the Iola-Scandinavia Middle and High School Trap League at Iola Conservation Club. The day concludes with Vinyl Sunday at Odin & Freja’s Place at 7 p.m.
