TRANSGENDER ATHLETES: Gov. Tony Evers vetoed five bills regarding transgender and gender nonconforming kids on Tuesday, March 31. AB100 would have mandated school boards, independent charter schools, and private choice schools to classify each athletic team or sport as male, female, or coed based on participants’ sex as reflected on their birth certificates.
AB102 would have required the University of Wisconsin and technical college institutions to designate athletic teams by biological sex and barred students of the male biological sex from participating on teams designated for females or women. Read the WAOW story here.
CITIZENS ONLY VOTING: Despite overwhelming voter approval of a constitutional amendment to ensure only U.S. citizens can vote in Wisconsin, the state’s election system still relies on self-attestation without requiring proof of citizenship or using available verification tools. The Wisconsin Elections Commission says it will be a “challenge” to meet the constitutional requirements of the Only Citizens Vote amendment. Read the MacIver Institute story here.
