IOLA UTILITY BILLS: There has been some commentary on Facebook concerning Village of Iola Utility payments not being received when they have been deposited at the box at Depot Street Station.  Some residents complained that they had received an interest penalty on their next bill because they hadn’t paid the previous bill. According to Village Clerk Laura Krogwold, “This is the first time I am aware of any issue with the utility drop box. With the current condition of the postal service, we are continuously working with customers who have lost payments in the mail. We have a process in the office set up for lost check cases, and customers don’t get charged late fees. All they need to do is contact our office, and we work with them.  If there are questions regarding utility accounts, the clerk’s office is the place to come, not Facebook.” Best practice with all payments made electronically or via check, to any vendor, is to always make sure it has been processed. Reconciling your bank statements monthly is the best way to catch is something that has not been processed.
