PLANE CRASH FINDINGS: A fatal plane crash in Iola was likely caused by pilot error, according to a federal report released Sept. 11. The Piper J5A crash occurred on Aug. 19, 2023, shortly after Bruce Flannery, 78, of Gladstone, Mich., took off from Central County Airport.

AGENCY-DRIVEN TAXATION: State agencies have begun their rush through a regulatory back door that will almost certainly cost owners of businesses large and small in Wisconsin tens of millions of dollars. State Rep. Adam Neylon, co-chair of the committee, told the Badger Institute the fee increases embedded in several of the rule changes are little more than unlegislated, agency-driven taxation.
