  • SAND MINE MEETING: A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 12, by the Waupaca County Planning and Zoning Committee on the proposed Iola Car Show sand mine. The meeting will be held in Room LL42 in the county’s Courthouse building at 811 Harding Street, Waupaca. The permit application was unanimously denied by the Town of Scandinavia Planning and Zoning Committee the Town of Scandinavia Board.
  • ART SHOW: Carolyn Rosenberger’s watercolor and charcoal painting entitled “Dreams Rise Up to Meet the Morning” has been accepted into the Stevens Point Riverfront Art Center’s Visions XXIV exhibition. Congratulations!
  • PHONE SCAM: Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative has indicated there is a current phone scam. The caller states that the person receiving the call has overpaid their electric bill and they can receive a refund by pressing 1. If you receive a call like this or similar to that, it is a scam. The cooperative doesn’t contact our members if they are overpaid on their electric account. If you receive a call as described above, hang up immediately.

  • RURAL BROADBAND EXPANSION: The CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act have pumped $175 million into the state’s broadband program over the past three years. In the four previous years from 2014-17 the total was less than $4 million, according to data collected by the Public Service Commission. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that Wisconsin will get $1.055 billion from the $42.45 billion earmarked in for rural broadband expansion in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. – Courtesy Badger Institute, June 27, 2023
