EXCELLENCE IN BROADCASTING: Iola’s Justin Moen has been selected for inclusion in the Marquis Who’s Who for his broadcasting experience. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration on media and technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2004. His journey in radio began at WDUX Radio, where he served as a radio announcer from 2004 to 2020. Justin has been a radio and digital marketing specialist at NRG Media, LLC, since 2021. In this role, he excels in reaching out to new prospects through various channels, establishing and nurturing client relationships and crafting compelling scripts for commercials. Congratulations!

VIKINGS WIN: The Scandinavia Vikings BABA team beat New London 8-3 in South/Central play.

KID NAMED IOLA: The buckthorn clearing project along the Riverwalk in Iola witnessed the birth of a baby goat. The owner named the kid Iola. This is the making of a local celebrity no doubt. Wonder if the owner is going to identify the celebrity kid in any way?

NON-RENEWAL HEARING: The Village of Iola will conduct a hearing on the non-renewal of the Thirsty Perch’s liquor license on Thursday, June 26, at Iola Village Hall. Previously, the Board had voted 7-0 to pull the license on June 10. The license is issued to Steve Steeber, who is listed on the license along with the owner, Sheri Miller.

WAUPACA DEMS CONDEMN ICE: Democratic Party of the 8th Congressional District of Wisconsin: Northeast Wisconsin Democrats condemn militarized immigration raids as un-American and dangerous overreach. One of the signers of the 8th District statement is Stuart Walter, chair of the Democratic Party of Waupaca County. Read the statement here.

STATE SUPREMES SIDE WITH AG: A unanimous Wisconsin Supreme Court sided with the Democratic state attorney general on April 17 in a long-running battle over a law passed by Republicans who wanted to weaken the office. The court ruled 7-0 that requiring the attorney general to get permission from a Republican-controlled legislative committee to settle certain civil lawsuits was unconstitutional. The law is a separation of powers violation, the court said. Read the story here.
