The Village of Scandinavia Board convened on Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. in the Scandinavia Municipal Center. The meeting was attended by board members Dave Mork, Mike Hayes, Becky Morgan, Patrick Knautz, Bob Fredy, Judy Watson, Kati McDermith, Krystal Flanscha, and community members.
President Mork initiated the proceedings by recommending the addition of the Pledge of Allegiance to future Board meetings, a proposal subsequently tabled until the October meeting. Jeremy Moe, representing Viking’s Baseball, sought approval for outfield work to enhance playability and expressed intentions to fundraise for associated costs. Moe requested inclusion in the Joint Meeting Agenda.
John Bertelson, from the Iola Recycling Center, addressed the board about Iola’s withdrawal from the recycling center and sought continued support from the Village of Scandinavia.
Public comments followed, including remarks from Tony Hawke, Steve Smith, and Linda Alfuth.
Lisa Shirek of Sliced Pizza withdrew her patio request. Concerns about the village’s liability regarding Shirek/Sliced air conditioner units and steps in the village right-of-way were discussed, with Ms. Shirek pledging to provide insurance paperwork. The board requested legal research on a resolution.
Parking options and amendments to ordinances were addressed, including a motion to approve Resolution no. 2-2-8-1 amending Ordinance 2-2-8 “Salaries.”
A Planning Commission Public Hearing motion was passed to add “Dog Breeding Facility” to conditional uses.
The Booster Club reported successful fundraising, intending to add an ADA-compliant family restroom and improve a shed. Other topics discussed by the board included job postings, dam inspection, and financial reviews.
Noteworthy actions included approving Zblewski Brothers for yard waste cleanup and reviewing snowplow quotes. Resignations from Judy Watson as Treasurer and Bob Fredy as Trustee were accepted. Bob Fredy was appointed as the new Village Treasurer, and Trustee vacancies were discussed.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 6:24 p.m.
