Village of Scandinavia adopts new building codes

New commercial and residential building codes were adopted by the Village of Scandinavia on May 10.

The codes affect the permit required, adoption of state codes, certified municipality status, need for building, HVAC and plumbing inspector, and sets forth violations and penalties.

No new owner or contractor may commence construction of any building or mechanical system prior to obtaining a valid permit from the village’s Commercial Building Inspector.

Permits are required for: commercial and ag buildings, detached structures and accessory buildings; additions increasing the building’s dimensions including decks; alterations to the building structure or to the building’s heating, electrical, or plumbing systems; replacement or addition of major building equipment including furnaces, central air conditioners, water heaters, and an “any other major piece of equipment”; any HVAC for new construction or remodeling; and any plumbing for new construction or remodeling.
