The Village of Iola held a public hearing on Monday, June 13, with regards to ATV and UTV curfews and noise.
The June 13 Public Hearing was called to order by President Jennifer Schustek at 5 p.m. President Schustek read the opening meeting statement and lead the Pledge of Allegiance, with a moment of silence following the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: President Jennifer Schustek, Trustees: Jim Rasmussen, Pamela Parks, Missy Fenn, Dave Harper, Rick Meyers, Mark McCoy, Village Attorney Bruce Meagher, Clerk/Treasurer Betty Aanstad. Deputy Clerk Laura Krogwold, Police Chief Paul Zierler, Others Present: Larry Flowers, Holly Neumann, Paul Webbe, Steve Madson, Steve Stieber, Sheri Miller, Steve & Kitty Tetzlaff, Lyle Mork.
Paul Wiebe talked about the curfew and the effect it has on people, coming into town and wanting to have a fish fry and then having to leave immediately, because of the curfew if they are not able to get into town until later. Steve Tetzlaff, reiterated Paul Weibe’s comments and also talked about the noise needs to be measured by decibels. Sherri Miller stated the noise difference between Motorcycles and ATV/UTV’s. Larry Flowers stated ordinances are in place for village residents. Sherri Miller stated friends of hers will not come into the village because of the curfew. Larry Flowers discussed the difference between ATV’s and UTV’s and fatalities. Steve Stieber stated that there were no fatalities in Waupaca County. Mark McCoy stated there was not much ATV traffic in town versus UTV traffic. Jim Rasmussen reiterated the rules and why they were put in place. Steve Madson talked on behalf of the Town of Iola and about why they have not put time restrictions on.
Trustee Harper made a motion to adjourn the hearing. Trustee Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
President Schustek adjourned the hearing at 5:18 p.m.
At its June 13 regular monthly meeting, the Iola Village Board unanimously struck the time curfew from the village ordinance.
