Village of Iola Nov. 16 Park Committee meeting minutes

Area of the dog park

The Village of Iola Park Committee met on Nov. 16, 2022, in the Iola Village Hall’s Community Room.

The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. by chairman Rick Meyers, in the Iola Village Hall, Community Room.

Committee Members Present: Rick Meyers, chair; Pamela Parks, Missy Fenn. Others Present: village clerk Betty Aanstad.

Chairman Rick Meyers provided update on pickleball court:

Glenn (Village Public Works) and Rick felt that one gate would be sufficient around the court.

Rick reached out to American Fencing with a new quote.

A contract was signed with American Fencing in the amount of $4, 825.

American Fencing would honor the contracted amount for spring of 2023 if they could not install fence in 2022.

Chairman Rick Meyers provided update on Dog Park, located at the corner of S. Town Line Rd. and W. Iola Street:

Any large rocks are either removed or buried.

Still needed is to remove small rocks and then plant clover in the spring.

If snow does not get too heavy, Rick would like to still consider going in and dragging and moving the small rocks into one area.

Fence posts are still needed. Rick figures in talking with Josh at Dee-O-Gee Doggie Day Care, the Dog Park will need 40 posts about 20 feet apart and 10 bales of wiring.

After talking with other dog park establishments, it was suggested to make a separate entrance and exit for the large dogs section because dogs leaving are tired and those coming in want to play and run. This will help both dog and handler.

Overall, it will be the gates needed that is the costliest remaining expense for the park.

The placement and how a water site within the dog park should be provided still being studied.

Discussion on how to handle verification regarding dog’s shots, fees, and others.

The committee is still exploring additional needs, ideas, such as dog park rules.

Additional discussion

The committee wants to have a fundraiser such as a 50/50 raffle during the Christmas parade coming up this year.

Direction for the River Road Community Garden and Children’s Garden in the Village needs to be reviewed. No decisions were made. Chairman Rick Meyers will be meeting with the current River Road Community Garden Coordinator (S. Doine) and Children’s Garden Coordinator (E. Flowers).

Motion made by P. Parks and seconded by M. Fenn to adjourn. Motion carried. Rick announced meeting adjourned at 4:33 p.m.
