At the Oct. 8 Village of Iola Board meeting, officials will address new business concerning brush cutting along the Little Wolf River and the acceptance of a $1,000 donation for a memorial bench honoring former village President Joel Edler.
The meeting will also review several committee reports, approve previous meeting minutes, and continue work on Chapter 32 of the village nuisance ordinance.
The meeting will begin with the customary formalities, including the call to order, an open meeting statement, the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence, and roll call. The open meeting statement will remind the public that all village board meetings are conducted in accordance with Wisconsin statutes, ensuring transparency for the citizenry.
During the public presentation segment, residents will have the opportunity to speak for a maximum of two minutes. Following public input, the board is set to approve minutes from various meetings held in September 2024. These include meetings from the Personnel & Police Committee, the Revitalization Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Community Development Authority, among others.
New Business
Key items to be addressed under new business include the maintenance of brush along the Little Wolf River, which could have an environmental impact on the local ecosystem. This proposal is expected to draw attention from residents concerned with preserving the river’s natural landscape.
Another significant topic will be the acceptance of a $1,000 donation for a memorial bench to honor the late President Joel Edler. This donation will help commemorate Edler’s contributions to the community, and the board will decide on its placement.
Committee Reports
Various committee reports will be presented, highlighting ongoing projects and upcoming meetings. The Community Development Authority (CDA) will meet on Thursday, Oct. 9, to discuss future initiatives. The Personnel Committee is set to meet on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 3:30 p.m., while the Protection of Persons and Property Committee will review their September 2024 service report and meet again that same day at 2 p.m.
The Public Works Committee will update the board on the upcoming paving of King Olav Street, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9, weather permitting. Additionally, they will conduct a sewer and water rate review at their next meeting on Monday, Oct. 21. The Ordinance Committee will continue working on revisions to Chapter 32, addressing nuisances within the village, while the Parks and Garden Committee will report on damage to playground equipment.
The Finance Committee will present the monthly bills and financial reports, and the Revitalization Committee is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The upcoming interview with a building inspector firm on Oct. 9 and future board meetings scheduled for Oct. 22 and Nov. 12 will also be highlighted.
The board will also address two complaint letters, one concerning issues at the post office and the other about Butternut Ridge. These letters may spark discussions on how to address resident concerns regarding these areas.
Other Business and Nuisance Ordinance Revisions:
Any additional business that may arise will be handled before the board continues its work on Chapter 32, focusing on nuisance regulation revisions. This ordinance has been under review to better define and manage nuisances within the village, ensuring a better quality of life for residents.
