Iola-Scandinavia junior runner Charlie Vater broke the school record for the 3200-meter run on Saturday, March 18, when racing the SPASH indoor meet at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.
Vater’s record time was 9:20.15. The previous record was set by Malachi Cate in 2005.
“My friend Aloysius and I wanted to see what we could run, so I said I’ll pace 4:40 for the first mile and see what we do after that,” said Vater. “I ended up splitting back-to-back 4:40 miles. It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve finally done it. I have been dreaming of this for too long. My coach and I are glad that we have this out of the way for the season, to focus on bigger things.”
