TRAIL RUN: An Under the Lights 5k Trail Run will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Iola Winter Sport Club. Run, hike, or walk. Cost is $10 for a trail pass if you are not a member. Afterward, enjoy a fire and refreshments.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS: Iola-Scandinavia High School Cross Country was led at state by senior Ben Beck, who placed 7th with a time of 16:31.4. Junior Jack Beck finished 93rd with a time of 18:31.7. The Division 34 men’s champ is Jonathan Simon, a sophomore from St. Ambrose Academy with a time of 16:06.9. Congratulations to the Beck Brothers!

FOR BOOK LOVERS: The Iola Village Library had a large donation of gently used books from some patrons who are moving out of state and had to downsize. As the weather gets colder, it’s the perfect time to curl up with a good book. The Iola Village Library has a large collection of books

LISTENING SESSION: State Sen. Cory Tomczyk will hold a one-hour listening session on Friday, Nov. 7, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Scandinavia Municipal Center in the Village of Scandinavia. He invites you to stop in, share what’s on your mind, and hear updates about what is going on in Madison with state politics.
FREE SIGHTING-IN DAYS FOR THE HUNTERS: The Iola Conservation Club at 7721 County Road J will be open to the public for the next two weekends, offering an opportunity to sight-in firearms. Saturday (8th and 15th ) hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday (9th and 16th ). Free coffee, pastry, targets, and expert assistance are available during this rain-or-shine event.

COMETS GOING TO STATE: The Waupaca High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team is on its way to state competition after defeating Rice Lake in the Division 2 sectional championship. Congratulations!

PUBLIC SAFETY LAWS: Gov. Tony Evers signed two bills by Rep. Brent Jacobson into law: Senate Bill 159 enables police vehicles to use extra visibility lights. At the same time, Assembly Bill 65 increases penalties for breaking into homes to commit battery. Jacobson says these laws will better protect Wisconsinites and support law enforcement in keeping communities safe.
DRUG TRAFFICKING RING: Eight of the 38 suspects arrested during an investigation into a large-scale drug trafficking ring appeared in Brown County court Thursday, Oct.30. On Wednesday, the 14-month investigation conducted by the Brown County Drug Task Force and Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group came to a head with 15 arrests.
