WITCHES PADDLE: Iola Mills wants to set the dates for the 2025 Witches & Wizards Paddle on Lake Iola. Join in on the water (BYO boats/boards) or on the shores at Iola Mills. Please cast your votes on possible dates by Friday, Oct. 5, and we’ll get it on the calendar.

HOMECOMING: It’s Homecoming Week for Iola-Scandinavia High School. There is a dress-up theme every day and other events. On Friday, Oct. 3, the Homecoming Parade starts at 2:30 p.m. from the high school parking lot. There will be a Tiny T-Birds Tailgate from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the traditional football game kickoff at 7 p.m. Prom will be Saturday, Oct. 4 from 8-11 p.m.

IOLA HAUNTED HOUSE DATES: The traditional Iola Haunted Mill experience will run Oct. 24, 25, 30 and Nov. 1 from 6:30-10:30 p.m.; Oct. 31 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.; and Oct. 26 Lights On during Trick or Treat 2-4 p.m., and Full Fright from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for 12 and under and $10 for ages 13 and older. All proceeds are for the Class of 2027.

NO COUNTY TIRE TAX: The Waupaca County Board Special Finance Committee nixed the notion of a tire tax at its Sept. 25 meeting.

HILLSHIRE RECALL: The Hillshire Brands Company recalled 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products due to possible wood pieces. Sold nationwide, including to schools and the Department of Defense, the affected items were packaged from March to September 2025. Recalled products have “EST-582” or “P-894” on their packaging.
