The Town of Helvetia in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. at the town hall located at E2544 County Rd GG in Iola. Key items on the agenda include approvals for two major comprehensive planning requests, updates on town hall infrastructure projects, a proposal for township-wide garbage collection, and a review of recent road maintenance and snow plowing contracts. The meeting will be open to the public.
In a meeting expected to touch on a wide range of civic concerns, the Helvetia Town Board will begin by formally opening the session with the Pledge of Allegiance. Officials will then review and approve the minutes from the previous meeting held on July 1 followed by the treasurer’s financial report and authorization of current town bills.
Two significant planning discussions will take place. The board will consider development-related items for Yah’s Refuge LLC and Olson/Oppor, both appearing under comprehensive planning topics. These items are likely to involve zoning, land use changes, or development permissions, marking important steps in long-term land use strategies for the township.
Also on the agenda is the approval of a survey map for Draphal, which could represent another incremental move in residential or commercial land development.
A key community service item will center on township-wide garbage pickup, presented by resident Liane Gruenwald. The proposal may address concerns over service efficiency, costs, and potential provider options, and is expected to generate public interest and discussion during the meeting’s public input period.
Infrastructure issues will take center stage during the Town Hall Projects update. The board will examine options for a new propane contract, replacement of ceiling tiles as proposed by Justin Hintz, the application of spray foam insulation in basement joist pockets, and installation of a ceiling in the outdoor shelter, a task assigned to Jeff Oppor. Additionally, the town hall’s water system passed a recent test, and Joe Ambacher will be tasked with replacing a cracked well casing cover to ensure continued water quality and compliance.
The meeting will also include a report from Jeff Oppor on the Fire and Ambulance Committee, which met on July 31. Updates from this report may influence future budgeting and emergency response planning.
As part of the Road Review section, officials will revisit completed maintenance efforts, including seal coating on Netzler, Lutz, and Aasen Roads and a cold patch on Aanstad Road, all recently completed by Scott’s Construction. Attention will also be given to the bad spot on Swamp Road near Highway 161, which has been patched and is awaiting final blacktopping by the Waupaca County Highway Department.
Further roadwork involving grading, graveling, and patching by Chad Bestul, along with ditch mowing on Kelly Land by Justin Hintz, will be reviewed to ensure quality and completion timelines are being met.
Looking ahead, snow plowing contracts for the 2025-26 winter season will be discussed, with Jeff Oppor expected to engage the county on securing necessary services.
The Planning Committee, led by Gary Prill, will provide updates on any long-range planning discussions or regulatory developments.
Before adjournment, the meeting will open the floor for public input, offering residents an opportunity to voice concerns or pose questions about town operations.
