Town of Helvetia to implement new driveway permit fee

The Town of Helvetia Board will convene for its regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at E2544 County Road GG. This open meeting invites the public to participate in discussions and decisions on various local issues.

The agenda begins with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the approval of minutes from the June 4 meeting and the approval of town bills. The Treasurer’s Report will provide insights into the town’s financial status.

One of the key actions to be taken is the introduction of a new $50 fee for driveway permits, which will also be posted on the town’s website. This measure aims to streamline the permit process and ensure proper funding for road maintenance.

Jeff Oppor will discuss the propane contract, while several significant road reviews are scheduled. These include:

  • Swamp Road from 161 to Pruess Road
  • Lutz Road from County Road GG to Aastrud Road
  • Town hall parking lot improvements.

Chad Bestul will lead efforts on patching, grading, adding gravel, and shouldering these roads. Additionally, Justin Hintz will provide updates on ditch mowing and brush cutting, with potential winter brushing in collaboration with the county being explored.

Maintenance topics will also cover furnace thermostat and AC upkeep by Mike Grassl and cleaning of the town hall, assigned to Jeff Oppor for July. The Town Hall sign, another of Grassl’s responsibilities, will be addressed as well.

Public input will be welcomed before the meeting adjourns, ensuring community members have a voice in these local decisions.
