The May 4 regular meeting of the Helvetia Town Board was held at the Town Hall and called to order by Chairman Calvin Preuss at 7 p.m. All board members were present. Three town residents were also in attendance.
The Board cited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Clerk Doug Hines and approved with a motion by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich.
Town bills were approved and paid with a motion by Gary Chich, second by Jeff Oppor.
The Financial and Treasurers reports were given and approved with a motion by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich.
New Business
Bids were opened for work on Moen Road: Bids were given by Chad Bestul Construction and the Waupaca County Highway Department. After review, a motion was made by Gary Chich, second by Jeff Oppor to award the bid to Chad Bestul Construction.
A complaint was made about shooting on a Lutz Road property. The County closed the gun range, since they were too close for the required distance to neighbors.
Since the oil prices are so low, the board will look into blacktopping Swamp Road this year, instead of waiting till next year.
An estimate was given for re-keying all of the doors entering the Town Hall. That was tabled for now.
The Board took no action for a request to lower the upcoming Liquor and Operator License renewals in the Town.
A current driveway off of Pagel Road needs to be a named road, since there are now several residences there. The Town can request a name or one will be chosen by the County.
The Town of Iola is requesting to sealcoat Aanstad Road this year. A motion was made by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich to approve the job with the Town paying 50 percent of its share of the road.
A motion was made by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich to approve Rural Insurance as it’s new insurance carrier for liability, property and Workers Comp.
Culvert replacement by the County with 50/50 split tabled for now, as none needed at this time.
Dog Licenses fees will change to $5 and $10 with a motion by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich.
Many tires, thrown into ditches, have been removed by board members and disposed of at a cost to the town taxpayers.
Gary Prill, of the Plan Commission, had nothing to report.
