The regular meeting of the Town of Helvetia Board was held on April 3 at the Town Hall, and was called to order by Chairman, Calvin Preuss at 7 p.m. This was Mr. Preuss final meeting as Town Chairman.
All Town board members were present. 9 town residents were also in attendance.
The Board cited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Doug Hines, Clerk, and approved with a motion by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich.
Town bills were approved and paid with a motion by Gary Chich, second by Jeff Oppor.
The Treasurers reports were given and approved with a motion by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich.
New Business
The abandonment of Willard Road was discontinued due to a possible landlocking issue.
A Class A liquor license application was posted and presented to the board for Chad Bestul of Sandbur General Store LLC. A motion was made by Gary Chich, second by Jeff Oppor to approve the Class A license for Sandbur General Store LLC.
The 2022 Financial Statement has not been completed due to some missing information. Waiting for Bids on Moen Road. The board decided to ask for other options for gravel as trucking costs have increased pricing. A motion was made by Jeff Oppor, second by Gary Chich to ask for grinding and gravel only bids.
Bids for Cross road have been requested and repairs are needed for a section of Carper Road. The newly elected board will have to set up a road tour.
A motion to adjourn was made by Gary Chich, second by Jeff Oppor.
April 18 Annual Meeting minutes
The Annual meeting of the Town of Helvetia was held at the Town Hall, and called to order by Chairman Jeff Oppor, at 7 p.m. Five town residents were present, besides the board.
The Pledge of Allegiance was cited.
The minutes from the 2022 Annual Meeting were read by the clerk and approved with a motion by Calvin Preuss, second by Mike Grassl.
Welcome to new Supervisor #1, Justin Hintz and to new Supervisor #2, Mike Grassl.
A special thank you to Calvin Preuss for his 20-plus years of service to the Town and for Gary Chich’s 18 years of service.
Old Business
Doug Hines, Clerk, presented the 2022 Financial Statement. After review, a motion to approve the 2022 Financial Statement was made by Justin Hintz, second by Mike Grassl.
Work was done on Swamp and Stoney Ridge Roads this past year. The Town purchased a new lawn mower and the new ICE voting equipment.
New Business
Work will be done on Moen Road. A discussion was held about graveling and double sealcoating lesser traveled roads. More information will be gathered at the Town Board meetings. The topic of changing the monthly meetings from Monday came up. After discussion a motion was made by Mike Grassl, second by Calvin Preuss to change the normal monthly board meetings to the first Tuesday of each month, starting in June 2023.
The board of review will be held April 25, 6-8 p.m.
Bids for the second part of Moen Road will be in and reviewed at the May board meeting.
Public Input: The town residents had a concern about papers flying out of garbage trucks and what is being done about certain residences with junk piling up.
The 2024 Annual Meeting will be the third Tuesday in April at 7 p.m.
