Tomczyk will be new State Senator; Assembly person decided in November election

Representation changes Jan. 6, 2025

As stated in a previous article, Joan Ballweg will no longer be your senator and Kevin Petersen will no longer represent you in the state Assembly effective Jan. 6, 2025. Until then we have the same Assemblyman and Senator, contrary to a previous indication.

Who will our representatives be?

The following information was taken from the Wisconsin Bluebook 2023-24.

State Sen. Cory Tomczyk, 29th District

State Senator Tomczyk, 29th District

Cory Tomczyk of Mosinee is now our State Senator for District 29. He is a Republican. He was born in Rudolph in 1962, is married, has two children and three grandchildren. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids and is a small business owner.

He is a former vice chair and is a current member of the Marathon County Republican Party and served on the Mosinee School Board from 2006-19 and was its president from 2010-15.

Tomczyk was elected to the Senate in 2022. Committee assignments include: Agriculture and Tourism, Financial Institutions and Sporting Heritage, Natural Resources and Energy, Transportation and Local Government, the latter which he chairs. Additional appoints are: Migrant Labor Council, Rustic Roads Board, and Transportation Projects Commission.

State Assemblyman James Edming, 87th District

James W. Edming is the current State Assemblyman for District 87. He will not live in the “new” District 87, he will live in the 68th District.

The new Assembly District 87 appears to have an open seat to be filled in the November 2024 election.

According to Senate Substitute Amendment 1, To Senate Bill 488, parts of Waupaca County that are part of the “new” District 87 are:

That part of Waupaca County consisting of all of the following:

(a) The towns of Dupont, Harrison, Helvetia, Iola, Scandinavia, Union, and Wyoming.

(b) The villages of Big Falls, Iola, and Scandinavia.

(c) That part of the city of Marion located in the county.

The “new” District 87 will encompass the following territory:

MARATHON COUNTY

That part of Marathon County consisting of all of the following:

(a) The towns of Bevent, Elderon, Franzen, Guenther, Knowlton, Mosinee, Norrie, Reid, Rib Mountain, and Ringle.

(b) The villages of Elderon, Hatley, Kronenwetter, and Rothschild.

(c) That part of the village of Birnamwood located in the county.

(d) The cities of Mosinee and Schofield.

PORTAGE COUNTY

That part of Portage County consisting of all of the following:

(a) The towns of Alban, Dewey, New Hope, and Sharon.

(b) The village of Rosholt.

SHAWANO COUNTY

That part of Shawano County consisting of all of the following:

(a) The towns of Almon, Birnamwood, Fairbanks, Germania, Grant, Morris, and Wittenberg.

(b) The villages of Eland, Tigerton, and Wittenberg.

(c) That part of the village of Birnamwood located in the county.

(d) That part of the city of Marion located in the county.

WAUPACA COUNTY

That part of Waupaca County consisting of all of the following:
