COIN PROPOSAL: Iola was once the Coin Collectors’ Capital so a new Charlie Kirk silver dollar design would be on interest to many. House Republicans August Pfluger (R-TX) and Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) are proposing a bill to pay tribute to the late Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk with a commemorative silver dollar coin. If passed, the legislation would direct the U.S. Treasury to produce 400,000 silver dollar coins, each displaying Kirk’s likeness on one side and the phrase “Well done, good and faithful servant” on the reverse.

Around the County

COUNTY TIRE TAX: The Waupaca County Board is contemplating a $20-$45 per vehicle tire tax to help it minimize a projected $4 million budget deficit in capital and operating expenses. It should be recalled that when the county instituted a 0.5 percent sales tax, it was temporary to pay for the new county building. It has become a permanent tax.
