BARBERSHOP SOLD: Stanley “Jake” Jakubek has sold his barbershop, which he operated for 57 years, to Adam Johnson. Thank you Jake for your decades of service to the Iola-Scandinavia community. Wishes for a wonderful retirement.

PIE ORDERING DEADLINE: If you order a pie for Thanksgiving form the Crystal Café, you have until Sunday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. to meet the order deadline. Homemade bread is also available. Contact the Crystal Café at 715-445-9227.

DECA CAN DRIVE: Mark your calendars to support DECA and the food pantry! On Monday, Oct. 23, middle school and high school students will collect non-perishable foods items door-to-door in the community from 5:30-7:30 p.m. For info contact Scott Tappa at tappas@iola.k.12.us.

FOOD DRIVE: Unexpired dry and canned goods are being collected by Schmidt’s Corners from Oct. 17-27. Items will go to the Iola Food Pantry.

TAX LEVY: The Iola-Scadinavia School District has set the mill rate at $7.60 per $1,000 valuation, down from $805, for a total tax levy of $4,428,023. There are 622 students in the district, so the tax levy works out to a cost of $7,119 per student.

IOLA-SCANDINAVIA SCHOOL DISTRICT: Iola-Scandinavia Elementary School has an educational assistant position available for the 2023-24 school year. This position will be until Dec. 22, 2023, with the possibility of the position being extended based on student need. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Responsibilities include working with students, assisting teachers in the classroom, playground duty, and other duties set by the district.
