Iola Depot gets new windows

The Iola Depot on the campus of the Iola Historical Society is having new windows installed. It is part of a restoration project for the historic structure in Iola.

COLLEGIANT ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE: Parker Prahl of Iola earned Academic All-Conference status as a member of the Lawrence College, Appleton, Wisconsin, men’s basketball team. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.33 grade point average for the current academic year, letter in any of the league’s fall, winter or spring sports and compete on a team that completed a minimum 50 percent of its scheduled contests. Congratulations!

CWEC SCHOLARSHIP: Josephine Miller is the recipient of a $425 Operation Roundup scholarship from the Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative. She will attend Minnesota State University Mankato for Anthropology. Congratulations!

GRANT FOR DRONE: The Waupaca Police Department is the recipient of a nearly $40,000 grant that will help fund the purchase of a new drone. The grant is the Forward Together Waupaca Area Grant offered by the Tim and Joy Neuville Family Fund within Waupaca Area Community Foundation. For more on the story go here.

STUDENT LOAN DEBT: Wisconsin has more than 727,000 student loan borrowers, holding more than $23 billion in debt, who will need to begin making their payments again this fall. Estimates vary, but about 40 percent of student loan debt holders didn’t receive a four-year degree. They have the financial burden of debt but not the earnings boost that would come from graduating. – Badger Institute
