SWAT TEAM OF THE YEAR: The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department’s SWAT Team was recognized as SWAT Team of the Year in combination with other agency responders to the July 2024 standoff in Amherst, Wisconsin. The recognition comes from the Wisconsin Association of SWAT Personnel.

TARIFF IMPACTS FOR WISCONSIN: The proposed tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico involve Wisconsin’s top three trading partners, involving about half of the state’s imports and exports. Wisconsin imports more now than before, with $38.9 billion in imports in 2024 compared to $27.7 billion in 2017. Some of the largest categories of products imported to Wisconsin are nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery, electronics, pharmaceuticals, vehicles, optic and photo devices, medical equipment, plastics, furnishings, and more. EMAILED ABSENTEE BALLOTS: A Wisconsin appeals court ruled Wednesday that disabled people are not allowed to receive absentee ballots by email. The initial ruling by a Dane County Circuit Court judge allowing for the ballots to be emailed, made in June, was appealed by the Republican-controlled Legislature. Read the story here.
