BOOK CLUB: The Scandinavia Public Library Book Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 3:40 p.m. for Fika and to discuss “The Teacher” by Freida McFadden. Pick up a copy of the book of put it on hold through Infosoup here.
SAVE THE DATE: The Ice Age Trail / Portage/Waupaca County Chapter will have its 38th Annual Fall Hike-A-Thon at the Iola Winter Sports Club / New Hope segments on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 8:30-11 a.m. Each hiker will receive a map at registration and an ICE AGE TRAIL bandanna. Varying trail lengths to choose from. There will be water and apples at road crossings along the way. And refreshments at the shelter before and after the hike! Dogs are welcome, but do need to always be on leash. So please feel free to bring your 4-legged family members!
LOCAL MAKES STARS & STRIPES: Navy Ensign. Olivia Lopez, a native of Iola, Wis., participated in a community relations event at Wildcat Park in River Hills, Wis., as a part of Milwaukee Navy Week. She appears in the lead photo to the article, which you can read here. Navy Week brings a variety of assets, equipment, and personnel to a single city for a week-long series of engagements designed to bring America’s Navy closer to the people it protects. The program reaches more than 140 million people each year.
