If the church needed donations, they would contact you by phone or talk to you in person.

JULY 3 FIREWORKS: Iola’s awesome display of fireworks, accompanied by patriotic music in celebration of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence. The best place to view them is at Taylor Field, which will also have baseball games before the fireworks, including the Battle For The Axe between Iola and Scandinavia’s fire departments. Ball games start at 5 p.m. The food stand is operated by the T-Birds Booster Club, and beverages are provided by the Iola-Scandinavia Chamber. Cash raffle tickets with limited ticket sales are available at local businesses, plus at Taylor Field the evening of the fireworks. Ten cash prize winners will be chosen at Taylor Field just before the fireworks (dusk).

YOGA WORKSHOP: On Tuesday, July 15, at 6 p.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is offering a mat yoga workshop. One hour of multi-level experience, flowing poses, and holding stretches. Open to the public, a suggested $5 donation is per class.

STATER SUPREME COURT RULES AGAINST GOVERNOR: A unanimous Wisconsin Supreme Court handed a victory to the Republican-controlled Legislature on Wednesday in a power struggle with Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, reining in the governor’s expansive veto powers. The court also ruled that the Legislature can put money for certain state programs into an emergency fund under the control of its budget committee. Evers had argued such a move was unconstitutional.
