The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds opened their packed week on a high note Monday, May 12, grinding out a 3-1 victory over the Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks in varsity baseball action. With clutch pitching and timely hitting, the Thunderbirds kicked off the week with momentum and earned the right for yet another coach to take the dreaded post-game ice bucket challenge.
Wyatt Wolberg delivered a commanding performance on the mound, pitching six innings of three-hit baseball. The right-hander allowed just one earned run while striking out eight and walking four, effectively keeping the Warhawks’ bats in check. His effort earned him the win.
Carson Desrochers sealed the deal in the seventh, recording the save in a flawless inning of relief. He gave up no hits and striking out one in a calm and efficient closeout.
Wolberg also starred at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and driving in a key RBI.
Chase Timdal, Broghan Gullixon, and Owen Wolberg each added a hit to the Thunderbirds’ offensive tally.
