The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds made a bold statement Monday afternoon, cruising past the Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks with an emphatic 13-3 victory. Fueled by consistent offensive firepower and solid pitching, the T-Birds put together a complete performance to continue building momentum this season.
Starting pitcher Landan Fuhs came out aggressive, commanding the game with poise. Over three innings, Fuhs allowed five hits and three runs — only one of which was earned — while issuing just one walk and striking out three. His control and tempo kept the Warhawks from ever gaining rhythm at the plate.
In relief, Ben Gruba took over and slammed the door shut on any hope the Warhawks had of a comeback. Pitching two shutout innings, Gruba surrendered just one hit and a walk while striking out two.
The Thunderbirds’ bats came alive early and often, with multiple players posting multi-hit performances.
Ethan Lashua led the charge with three hits, including a ringing double that energized the dugout and fans alike. Carson Desrochers followed suit with two hits, one of them a scorching double into the gap. Wyatt Wolbergs matched that stat line with two hits of his own, including yet another double that plated runs.
Chase Timdal also contributed two hits in the breakout game, while Ben Gruba, Broghan Gullixon, and Ryan Thulien each chipped in with a hit apiece, rounding out a well-balanced offensive attack.
