Thomas A. Hoyord

September 13, 1941 – May 7, 2024

Thomas A. Hoyord, 82, of Scandinavia, Wisconsin, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

He was born on September 13, 1941, in Iola, Wisconsin, to Lenwick and Glenna (Taylor) Hoyord.

Tom married the girl next door, Ann Sorenson, on Sept.23, 1961, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Amherst Junction, Wisconsin. 

Tom graduated from Iola Scandinavia High School, Bethany Lutheran College, and attended UW–Stevens Point.

He worked as a transportation supervisor, mechanic, and school bus driver for the Iola-Scandinavia School District for 46 years. He was president of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iola for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ski jumping, baseball, working with his horses, and spending time with his family.  

He is survived by his wife Ann; children Brenda (Paul) Gard, Matt (Tammy) Hoyord, Mark (Pam) Hoyord, Susan (Jon) Loken, Tim (Denise) Hoyord, Chad (Deanna) Hoyord, Charlie (Heather) Hoyord, Tony (Jamaica) Hoyord, Jay (Kristen) Hoyord, Katie (Jake) Emmerich, Michael (Erika) Hoyord, and Luke (Dow) Hoyord; son-in-law Tom Gauerke; 38 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sister Janice ( Steve) Sparley; and former sister-in-law  Jan Grenlie.

 He was preceded in death by his daughter Gwen Gauerke; parents Lenwick and Glenna Hoyord, brothers David Hoyord and Richard Hoyord; sister and brother-in-law Lanna (Phil) Petersen.

The Funeral Service for Thomas will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Iola with Rev. Greg Haugen officiating. Visitations will be held on Friday, May 17, at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 5-7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m.   

Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Iola following the funeral service. The family would like to thank North Ridge Memory Care of Stevens Point and Aspirus Hospice for their compassionate care
