Tenny R. Fogelberg
April 8, 1905 – October 22, 2020
Tenny R. Fogelberg, age 95, of Iola, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020.
He was born in Kennedy, Minnesota, in 1925, and grew up in Marble, Minnesota, on the Iron Range.
He graduated high school in 1942. Then Tenny served in the US Army Air Corps in World War II as a navigator. Stationed in Italy, his B-24 Bomber was shot down and he spent six months as a POW in Germany.
After the war he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mining Engineering. He was recalled into the Air Force during the Korean War. His B-26 bomber crash-landed and he was severely injured, spending two years in a military hospital where he met Nurse Virginia Toebaas. They were married in 1955 and remained so for 65 years until his death.
They raised their two children in the Los Angeles, California, suburbs of West Covina and Covina, where he worked in the heavy construction industry as an estimator. He retired in 1988 when they moved to Virginia’s hometown of Iola, Wisconsin.
Tenny was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Warren and sister Artelle. Surviving are sister Andre, wife Virginia, daughter Diane (Tim) Robertson, and son Jack Fogelberg. He is also survived by three grandsons, Brian Robertson, Mark Robertson and Sean Fogelberg as well as granddaughter Genna Fogelberg.
Tenny was a member of the Iola Ski Club, Iola VFW, Iola Lions Club, and Glacier Wood Golf Club. He enjoyed golf until his old war injury caused a leg amputation at the age of 88. He also enjoyed baking bread, reading, and following The Packers.
A Memorial Service for Tenny will be held next spring at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church in the Town of Iola. The Rev. Dale Wilson will officiate. Interment of cremains with full Military Rites will follow the service at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery.
