Sven Fritjof Carlson obituary

Sven Fritjof Carlson

May 30, 1935 – February 13, 2024

Sven Fritjof Carlson passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, peacefully at home.

He was born on May 30, 1935, in Scandinavia, Wisconsin, to the late Frank and Louise Carlson.

In 1953, he married his one and only true love, Shirley A. Snyder, whom he met while she was helping his family pick potatoes. To this day, they still celebrate Potato Day.

Together they lovingly raised four children: Diane (Jim) Stiebs, Christy (Arthur) Hill, Jeff Carlson, and Terri (Rick) Pomerenke.
Sven was one who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He could fix anything one way or another – his ingenuity amazed us all. He was always creating fun adventures for his kids and their friends – from a giant swing to an old school bus converted to a camper.

Sven retired from the Waupaca Foundry in 1998 after 43 years. He was one of the original “gang of 13” who worked at the foundry before it was changed to Waupaca Foundry, Inc. Even after he retired, he would haul his grill up there and cook hamburgers for some of the workers.

Sven was preceded in death by his siblings: Elias (Gerri) Carlson, Clara (Gunder) Gunderson, Franklin (Thordis) Carlson, and Arne (Ada) Carlson; and daughter-in-law, Judy Carlson.

He is survived by his four children as well as his grandchildren: Jamie Storm, Jon (Miranda) Stiebs, Amanda Kealiher, Gregory (Rachel) Hill, Andrew (Emma) Hill, Ryan (Anna) Hill, Jenny Carlson, Jason (Teresa) Carlson and Jackie Carlson. He is also survived by great-grandchildren: Norah, Alex, Brody, Torin, Talon, Kaleb, Evelynn, Oliver, Teddy, Jack, Parker, and Warren. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to hospice workers Krissy and Nikki for all of their help and support during this time.

Per Sven’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.
