SHIVERS OPENING: Iola’s popular ice cream shop Shivers will open on Sunday, May 4, at 11 a.m.

GELATO IS BACK: Iola Mills will open Friday, May, 2, from 4-8 p.m.

TRAFFIC FATALITY: On Sunday, April 27, at 12:25 am the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a UTV crash on Mud Lake Road north of Nitke Road. Upon arrival, deputies located a UTV that had crashed into the north ditch. A male subject was found outside the UTV. Life-saving measures were performed; however, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iola Area Ambulance, Iola Fire Department, Northwest First Responders, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Waupaca County Medical Examiner.

CRYSTAL CAFÉ: Summer hours are: Closed Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday through Friday 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

JOSEPH DAY: The Wisconsin State Legislature has passed a resolution establishing May 1 as St. Joseph the Worker Day, coinciding with the Catholic Church’s observance of the feast day honoring the patron saint of workers. “Wisconsin is proud to join Louisiana in recognizing St. Joseph the Worker Day, a tribute to the hardworking men and women who are the backbone of our economy,” lead sponsor Sen. Cory Tomczyk, R-Wis., who represents Iola-Scandinavia, said. “This resolution honors the resilience, dedication, and tireless spirit of our workforce, reflecting the timeless virtues of St. Joseph that guide workers in their daily endeavors.” Read the story here.
